My Evening Skincare Routine – December 2021.

If I had to pick between skincare and makeup I would 100% pick skincare every single time. More so now that I am wearing less makeup to work (partly due to me leaving the beauty industry, partly due to wearing a mask all day long) and hardly ever wearing it when I am at home with Rosie, I am focussing more on my skincare routine. Due to leaving the house for work at 630 my skincare routine in the morning is very basic, but at night I make the most of having a little bit more time to look after my skin. For reference my skin is the most ‘normal’ that it has ever been, I am prone to dryness and my skin is quite reactive (eczema/redness rather than blemishes) but for the most part it isn’t too problematic. 4 years of rubbish sleep has left me looking permanently exhausted and rather dull but I think that I have found some great products to counteract this.

Makeup Remover/Cleanser: Elemis Pro Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm.

The Elemis cleansing balms are incredible and are my all time favourite cleansing balm formulas and the scents are just 10/10. I have been using this one on and off since the start of the year (It even featured in my March Favourites) and have back ups in the original scent ready for when this one runs out. I find it gets all of my makeup off including mascara, eyeliner and long lasting foundation really easily and without irritating my skin or eyes.

Second Cleanser: Kate Somerville Goat Milk Cleanser.

I havent tried using this to remove heavy makeup but have used it in a pinch on light base makeup days. As a second cleanser it thoroughly cleans the skin without stripping it but also contains naturally antibacterial Manuka Honey which helps to keep acne causing bacteria at bay.

Toner: Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Treatment Lotion

More akin to a serum in texture this gloopy, moisture binding lotion is best applied with hands whilst the skin is still damp. I think that this has been recently discontinued so if you can’t get hold of a bottle, the Fenty Fat Water is a close replacement.

Treatment: Organic Pharmacy Retinol Night Serum.

Encapsulated Retinol is a more stable, more deeper working retinol that is enveloped in a protective layer, minimising the irritation found with traditional retinols. The Organic Pharmacy Retinol Night Serum contains 2.5% Encapsulated Retinol and hasn’t cause me any irritation, peeling or redness. I use it most nights and follow up with my moisturiser.

Eye Cream: Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery.

Ridiculously long name aside, the lightweight but rich gel texture of this eyecream makes it a great option for tired, puffy eyes. I am about 2/3 of my way through and have got nothing but positive things to say so far.

Moisturiser: Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturiser

I love the Kate Somerville products that I have tried so far and this moisturiser is no exception. Lighter in texture than the moisturisers I usually favour, it is an ideal accompaniment to more active serums. Rather than focussing on fighting aging or enhancing glow, the Goat Milk range reduces redness, irritation and is formulated for even the most sensitive skin.

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume Lips

To finish off I apply my lipbalm, since we have been wearing masks my lips have been so dry, I think it is the lack of lipstick asking as a barrier. I have finished a couple of these in the last year or so and I would highly recommend it, especially if you have particularly chapped lips or sensitive skin.

What is your evening routine? I love hearing what works for other people, especially anything that leaves your skin glowy.

Cannot have a skincare routine without a little bit of Elemis!

I still have to try the Kate Somerville cleanser, it will be allowed on rotation as soon as one of the other four are finished. I also managed to pick up a 100ml Hourglass cleanser for an absolute steal on Vinted last week and have high hopes for that, really interested to see how Hourglass fair in the skincare arena.

Skincare is becoming such a staple of my day, it kicks the day off and it is the time when I can get in to my pjs (even if at 5:31pm) and I look forward to getting my nighttime skincare done so I can wind down. I don’t think my routine has changed since your last post but I have added Elemis’ retinol alternative serum to my evening routine (every other night) but cannot say I have noticed any difference to be honest!
