Everyday Makeup – October 2021

My job as a beauty specialist means that for three days of the week I experiment with products, looks and techniques, keeping on top of the latest launches and trends. The other days of the week I am at home with Rosie and tend to have a lot less time to get myself ready; that’s where a five minute makeup look comes in. These change depending on what I have in my makeup bag at the time but usually focus on easy to use, multi use products that I know give good results. This is what I am using currently.

Pixi Rose Radiance Perfector

This lightweight lotion adds hydration and radiance to the skin. I apply all over, focussing on high points of the skin and blending out before adding foundation. I haven’t been using it long but I am impressed with the results so far.

Dior BB cream – 01 Fair

One of my favourite base products a couple of years ago, when it was discontinued I stocked up and I am still slowly working through them. Lightweight, buildable coverage with a soft matte finish, it is a great everyday foundation, it is just slightly too warm for my skintone at the moment so I have to apply with caution.

Benefit Boing concealer – 01 and MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter Radiant Rose.

I use the Benefit concealer for any heavy duty concealing, so any blemishes, areas of redness or particularly bad dark circles and then the MAC for a boost of brightness under the eyes. I find that sometimes when using a fuller coverage concealer it can look a little bit flat and one dimensional so the MAC highlighter helps to counteract this.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer – Light

This poor bronzer has seen better days and is getting smaller by the day. The paler version of the cult favourite Hoola, it is a great option for fair skintones as it warms up the skin without any orange tones. Plus it is completely matte, which makes it a great one sweep eyeshadow colour or blended through the crease on more advernturous looks.

Fenty Cheeks Out cream blusher – Petal Poppin’

Even if I am only applying a couple of products to my face, I will always pick up a blusher. My skin is fair with naturally flushed cheeks – if I use foundation and don’t add colour back in, I look unwell. Petal Poppin is a sheer peachy pink and suits most makeup looks and skin tones. I find the formula is slightly drier than that of the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge but it still has a slight radiance on the skin.

Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara

This mascara was part of the John Lewis Beauty Masterclass goody bag I blogged about previously. I must admit it isn’t one that I will repurchase, I don’t find I get the dramatic lashes that it promises. My current favourite mascaras are the Bite Upswing mascara and the Too Faced Better than Sex.

Benefit Gimme Brow / Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil.

A great brow duo – nobody nails brow products quite like Benefit! The pencil is soft and almost shades in the brows, rather than drawing on individual brow strokes and the Gimme Brow adds colour to the hairs themselves (whereas the pencil fills in the gaps on the skin) and adds fullness.

Elemis Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm

I tend to just apply lip balm during the day, especially as we are still taking masks on and off. This Elemis one tends to live in my bag and despite having a slight white opacity, it doesn’t leave any tint on the lips.

I am so sad that the Hourglass mascara doesn’t work for you, I absolutely adore it. Not as much as their discontinued Film Noir but I find it gives me bold enough lashes that I don’t really need any other eye makeup. Perhaps once it dries up a bit you will enjoy it more (hopefully!).

The Elemis lip balm is such a staple in my life, I like having it on the go because it doesn’t require you to use your fingers but I also have one by my bed to slather on before going to sleep. Definitely a winner for winter as really keeps lips moisturised during the colder months – also our go to for Elemis website deals for the great price point.

I cannot believe I didn’t try your Fenty items when you last visited, I have wanted to test them for years and somehow always forget. Next time!
